so the minnesota freedom fund turned out to be fraudulent :///

y’all..........remember 1. most grassroots organizations aren’t prepared or expecting to raise 30+ million dollars in 3 weeks 2. days after they started they said they had enough donations and asked people to direct funds to needier orgs 3. they announced they’ve spent over $200k bailing people out and are working on doing more 4. community organizing done right is hard work with a lot of different factors and limited resources Beyond just money.

hold these organizations accountable and demand transparency. but this original post has such little information and y’all are just circulating it? read the thread from the oakland mask org that started years ago and how intense this work is. it’s been three weeks and these are what looks like less than 12 people who have been given an immense amount of cash in an unbelievably short amount of time. i wouldn’t be so quick to call this a shaun king situation.

I follow Fadumo. She's deleted these tweets.

The MN Freedom Fund has existed since 2016. Prior to the George Floyd protests, they were a small bail fund that paid out around $1000 per day. Paying out over $200,000 in 20 days puts them at over 10 times their previous payout rate.

They stopped taking donations very early on because the support overwhelmed their capacity.

Their front page now, as it has been since late May, is almost entirely links to local efforts which need more support - Black Visions Collective, Reclaim the Block, and funds like Rebuild Lake Street and the Northside Business Association.

Meanwhile, The National Lawyers Guild has said that jails are delaying activists from being able to release protestors.

The MNFF should be transparent about how it's using the money, yes. I believe they should also redirect the donations they can't immediately use to other organizations. But they're a 501(c)3 nonprofit, there are restrictions on how they can spend and transfer money. You can check out their nonprofit filing forms on ProPublica - no one at MNFF receives a salary.

Keep orgs accountable, keep pushing for transparency, but please do a little more leg work before accusing an org of fraud.

all this. you can't just waltz into a courthouse, write a check for $35 million, and call it a day. it would be scandal if the $35 million had been spent frankly.

Have you ever attempted a pokemon Nuzlocke?

People keep acting like aspec people are this fucking concept. Like "Hey [big creator] do you support aspecs?" and then they're like "I dont do discourse sorry :)". Like buddy this isnt about whether or not Dirk Strider is a redeemable character, this is ur followers asking if the person they look up to respects them as people and won't hate their guts for just existing jesus fuckin christ

Yknow, I totally support this but also... Like, there's gonna be people who are scared to put out their opinions even if it does mean supporting people. Cause then you get the people who will come in droves just to beat on you for your opinions, whichever way you lean.

So, yeah, I think big creators should be better with putting their opinions out. But at least with smaller creators who don't get as much attention, just... Remember to be kind. If someone doesn't want to attract attention to their opinions don't just automatically assume the worst. Maybe assume the worst, but hope for the best and leave the shy people to themselves.

Frankly, if you’re too ‘shy’ about your opinions to tell an ace person that you support them on a shitty backwater website like tumblr, I don’t think the ace community owes you any gentleness whatsoever

Also, if you’re THAT skittish, you can always just. Delete the ask? Ignore the comment? But for some reason people always feel the need to tell the ace community that their existence is ‘discourse’ and they don’t want to be involved lol

I love the support but please refrain from saying ace community and instead say aspec community like the original post did so that you don't exclude aros

Excellent point, my bad!

Can’t you answer asks without posting them to your blog anyway? I don’t know how, personally, but I’ve sent an ask before and I don’t think it showed up on their blog, I could be wrong tho.

ok but this is cute

I never do this (hijacking a thread) and this has nothing to do with how cute this dude is about his wife and his knife. It has to do with the show this is from, Forged in Fire.  There are a fafillion different competition shows about food and flowers and glass blowing and every other thing under the sun. But this show - about forging knives and swords and all kinds of crazy weapons - is by far THE best one out there, IMO. Yes, it’s mostly dudes (though they have some lady smiths on now and then), but they are so the opposite of the shitty, catty kinds of competition in most shows. They are competitive, they want to win the $10k, obviously. But they’re also super supportive of the other smiths they’re up against, they are humble when they get eliminated, and they’re just fucking excited to do the thing they love. The host and the judges are fucking fantastic: they explain what’s happening (along with some pop up text now and then), they critique without tearing people down, they’re also VERY supportive without being condescending or smarmy, and they know their shit. And lemme tell ya, the process itself is fascinating whatever they get tasked with making. It’s usually knives in the first rounds under some stringent time constraints, and then they get down to the final two guys and they’re given some weapon from history they have to go make in their home forges. They give a short history lesson on the weapon - where it’s from, the time period, where you might have seen it (movies, tv, vid games, etc) - and the parameters they need to meet and off they go. There are some absolutely beautiful pieces that come out of this. And the dudes are so proud, and giddy, and fucking NICE.

Anyway watch Forged in Fire on History channel on Wednesdays. Give it 2-3 eps and I promise you’ll learn something and see how competition shows don’t have to be bitchy sneering asshats. They can just be a bunch of talented Bubbas that like to hammer hot metal.

They recently started a secondary series called Beat The Judges, where 3 winners from past seasons come in with a knife they made at home that gets tested, w one being sent home at the end of testing.

The 2 remaining smiths are then tasked with making a weapon that was featured as a previous like ‘go home and make this’ but this time they are also only allowed to use the materials for the weapon out of whatever they are given in the forge. After five minutes of scavenging the two smiths are sent home

Once they return with their finished weapons they are tested by one of the 3 judges, who will not be competing against whoever moves forward. From there the winner of those two then goes against 1 of the two remaining judges

Upon the reveal of who they are up against, the smith and judge have 8 hours in the forge to completely make whatever weapon theyve decided on! If the smith wins they collect 10k dollars were if the judge wins, that 10k is donated to a charity of their choice!

It’s very fun, (both series) and there is only 2 episodes of beat the judge currently. I cant stress how much you guys should watch this (while there have been female smiths on the show as of 6/20 there have only been two female forged in fire champions!)

I loved that show!! I need to watch it some more, and find a good place to watch it
