Look idk about the rest of you but like

I read that George Floyd was killed bc they thought he passed a counterfeit bill

Which like, ok is a crime but not exactly HARMFUL TO ANYONE AT ALL

But THEN I read that it was a TEN-DOLLAR BILL and I just have to say, whomever called the cops on a black man over $10 is exactly as culpable for his death as the pig who did it

Also? I work in fast food. Here’s the procedure:

1) apologize to the customer that the bill is counterfeit, and you cannot accept it as payment. Tell them you must retain it as it will have to be turned in to the Treasury, but it is not legal tender.

2) if you have a counterfeit detection device like a pen, show the customer that the bill is fake. Alternately, tell them how you know it’s fake. (99 times out of 100 it’ll be a missing watermark or security strip.) Do not let go of the bill during this process.

3) the customer will probably be upset—and understandably so, if the bill was passed to them. Apologize again but restate that it is illegal for you to return it.

4) if the customer grows BELLIGERENT—by which I mean you or other customers are endangered—tell them that you can call the police to verify the bill is fake. DO NOT CALL YET.

5) if you have a Karen, you may have to call because she will not leave until you do, or may even insist on calling herself. If this is the case, clearly state that you have a customer who did not realize they were in possession of a counterfeit, but now will not accept it is fake. Follow directions. This customer is white approximately 100% of the time and is in no danger from police. Keep the bill visible (so Karen can’t claim it was bait-and-switched), but well out of reach. I recommend having some kind of clip behind the register where you can hang things for this.

5a) I have never actually had an encounter with a nonwhite person get this far. If it does, tell them you will have to call the police if they do not leave. DO NOT CALL UNLESS YOU ARE ACTUALLY PHYSICALLY ATTACKED.

6) if another form of payment is offered, accept it. The odds are EXTREMELY good that the person giving you the bill is not the counterfeiter.

7) offer to show the customer some common security marks to look for so they won’t get taken again. The watermark is a good one. I also like teaching them about the raised printing on the President’s jacket, because it’s a lot harder to fake.

8) your manager will know where to retain the counterfeit until it can be turned in. At my store, this involves writing FAKE or COUNTERFEIT or COPY on the bills and then taking them once a month to the bank for disposal.

LOOK AT THAT. NO HARM NO FOUL. NOBODY HAS TO DIE OR GET ARRESTED. IN FACT YOU CAN HELP THIS CUSTOMER TO AVOID THIS PROBLEM IN THE FUTURE.

George Floyd’s death was entirely preventable on the police end, but I want you to look at JUST HOW FUCKING PREVENTABLE IT WAS. Look at this. Look at it. I was trained in this from the time I was 21 and first took a job in a big city. It’s easy. It’s just basic customer service tenets but with added “I’m really sorry about this.”

He did not have to die, and that clerk is a co-conspirator in his death.

The business has come out and talked publicly about the incident and there’s a few things that need saying.

1. They aren’t a restaurant, they are a money-changing business and have different procedures.

2. It was official procedure for the police to be called. The clerk would probably have lost their job if they hadn’t.

3. The business has since come out and said that they no longer trust the police and will only call them in cases where physical violence is threatened or enacted. They have spoken at length and with great passion about how angry they are and how guilty they feel for having caused this.

4. The business is helping pay for George Floyd’s funeral and supporting the family as best they can.

Please don’t spread misinformation that directs anger away from the actual culprits in this case, the four murderous policemen who decided to kill George Floyd for no reason.

Days since the Brits were at it again: 0

Aww, Lads….Not again.

May I ask why the British government has any say in what epitaph one is allowed to choose for their late relatives?

okay i have to say something now that i read an article more in depth & holy shit is this fucking disgusting. taken from this bbc article ;

“Given the passions and feelings connected with the use of Irish Gaelic, there is a sad risk that the phrase would be regarded as some form of slogan or that its inclusion without translation would, of itself, be seen as a political statement,” said Judge Stephen Eyre, QC, chancellor of the Diocese of Coventry.

he basically said that the entirity of the irish language is a political statement, that speaking it is a political act & putting these totally heartfelt worlds on the gravestone of an irish catholic woman who completely assimilated to english culture but wanted some memoriam of her culture in her children’s wishes, is a political act.

Untranslated Irish words would be “unintelligible to all but a small minority of readers”, he ruled in his judgment for the Church of England consistory court on 6 May. He authorised a memorial which included a translation of the phrase in English.

why does every passer by need to understand the words on a gravestone of somebody they don’t know? why was this even taken into account?

& you wanna know why it would be unintelligible to all but a small minority of readers? bc its IRISH ; a language the english tried for CENTURIES to wipe out. they punished people for speaking our culture’s language, they killed people for it. the amount of irish people who know their own culture’s language is horrifically small & it’s entirely because of the racist onslaught the english perpetrated against us when they decided to try & wipe out our culture. also, why does it matter to anyone but the family what words are on THEIR MOTHER’S GRAVESTONE?

also, this battle has gone on for TWO YEARS. two years where this poor family has not been able to grieve properly for their beloved lost mother, where they can’t honour her with their culture & their language that they have probably fought to keep alive.

i’m so fucking disgusted.

if you cannot protest or donate, and you’ve been retweeting and reblogging your ass off, here’s another thing you can do from home to help out later on down the line.

we are dealing with a fascist police state. fascists love nothing more than controlling the media and taking away primary sources of their evildoing, so lets take some steps toward taking that power away from them.

the wayback machine is a tool from the internet archive, a nonprofit website that seeks to capture websites as they change over time. the wayback machine is free to use and will be able to help protect all of the first-person accounts of the crimes being committed by the state during these protests for human rights.

this is what the homescreen of the wayback machine looks like:

image

that blue circle is where you put a permalink to a tweet you want to add to the wayback machine

imageimage

that red circle is how you find the permalink to a tweet. click “copy link to tweet” and put it in the blue circle above, and there you have it! save what you see. don’t let anyone take away all of the documentation of these crimes the state has committed and declare it fake news.

fuck the cops. fuck orange mussolini. fuck racists, and fuck fascist government regimes.

dont forget: there’s nothing more punk than voting, libraries, and loving each other.

Anywhomst, if any of you happen to get called into jury duty in the coming months (assuming we don't move to full on military tribunals lol) act like you have no horse in the race re: the protests during the selection interviews so you can potentially prevent a guilty verdict

It's worth pretending to kiss cop feet for a couple hours if you can actually stop someone from getting pushed thru their system

Let’s add a bit to this. Jury nullification is this awesome thing that happens when a jury turns out a “not guilty” verdict even though they agree that the defendant did the behavior that they’re being accused of, because they think THE LAW IS WRONG. This is a legitimate form of protest against unjust laws and enforcement of those laws.

If you are selected for jury duty service, they will likely say something like, “It is your duty to apply the law as it is given to you, regardless of whether you agree.” THIS IS A LIE. You have the right to nullify a charge because you believe the law is incorrect, immoral, or for whatever other reason wrongly applied to the defendant of the charges.

That being said, do not tell the judge or the attorneys that your intent going in is to nullify the law. You will not be selected.

Know your rights. Exercise them.

When I served on jury, the jury and I collectively agreed the dude did attempt to sell bath salts, but since it was to an undercover cop and we felt he was set up, we saved him from a guilty verdict and found him “not guilty.”

You can do it too. Stand up for your fellow Americans when you can.

the lea michele situation is actually a prime example of why we should be wary of performative activism right now. if you are supporting the cause by protesting, donating, posting your support, etc. that’s great! but this problem goes so much deeper than just police brutality.

every single non-black person who has posted #blacklivesmatter this week needs to take a step back and analyze whether or not their actions (not just their words) have shown that they truly believe that statement. it’s a clear and obvious choice to speak out against the brutal murder of an innocent man. however, if you are not making the obvious choice every day to speak up for us when your friends/relatives make racist jokes, if you are not listening to and respecting the black people you know in real life, if you have not sat down to analyze the ways you actively benefit from this system, if you have not worked to start unlearning the biases you were raised with, or if you thought “black lives matter” was a controversial statement until this week, do not pretend to care just because everyone is talking about it right now.

when these protests are over, there will still be many battles to fight. this is not a game, and this is not something you post about just for likes and clicks. if you are resting easy right now thinking that you’re “one of the good ones” for showing public outrage over a situation that should anger any reasonable person, you need to do more. racism is not something you can pick and choose when to be against. we don’t get to pick and choose when we experience racism. so if you’re going to get involved with this situation right here, right now, then you need to be ready to hold yourself and others accountable for anti-blackness in all other areas of your life.

white people can and SHOULD reblog!
